A couple of Redpolls have joined the 40+ Goldfinches at my feeders this morning. They seem to have replaced the two Pine Siskins that were here for a few days.
Although I have a feeder devoted to niger, it's not as popular as my big hopper-style feeder, which I keep filled with the Turek Farm (King Ferry) black oil sunflower seed. That stuff contains quite a lot of kernels lacking hulls, which makes things easy for finches with tiny bills. And I throw some niger in the hopper too. The squirrel proof feeder has adjustable spring-loaded perch bars, which I've set to accommodate six or eight small birds but exclude Blue Jays. (The Jays eat off the ground or visit an open platform feeder.) -Geo -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
