A couple of Redpolls have joined the 40+ Goldfinches at my feeders this
morning. They seem to have replaced the two Pine Siskins that were here for a
few days.

Although I have a feeder devoted to niger, it's not as popular as my big
hopper-style feeder, which I keep filled with the Turek Farm (King Ferry) black
oil sunflower seed. That stuff contains quite a lot of kernels lacking hulls,
which makes things easy for finches with tiny bills. And I throw some niger in
the hopper too.

The squirrel proof feeder has adjustable spring-loaded perch bars, which I've
set to accommodate six or eight small birds but exclude Blue Jays. (The Jays
eat off the ground or visit an open platform feeder.)
