Late this afternoon about 4:30 I walked down in the woods behind our
house on Mount Pleasant Road. I heard an *Ovenbird* sing its
"teacher-teacher-teacher" at least 4 times but could not find it.
*Ruby-crowned Kinglets* seemed to be everywhere and singing. I got nice
looks at a *Black-throated Green *warbler and with my best imitation of
the song, it finally sang a few times. I came across 5-6*Yellow-rumped
Warblers*. They were sallying out and catching insects, moving through
the treetops. I also saw my first *Blue-grey Gnatcatcher*, and two
*Chipping Sparrows*.
Other birds I saw or heard:
*Ruffed Grouse****
**Eastern Towhee**
Mallard pair on the pond
**White-throated Sparrow**
**Chickadees **
Tufted Titmouse
**Juncos **
**RWBB**
**Robins**
**Blue Jay**
**Hairy Woodpecker**
**Yellow-bellied Sapsucker**
**Northern Flicker*
*Am. Goldfinch*
*Wood Duck pair *( this morning - flew over the treetops near our pond.)

Yesterday, 4/30, I had a *Brown Thrasher *singing in a tree at the edge
of the back yard.

Happy May 1st! Good birding

Gladys
