I saw no osprey in Cayuga nor did I see any in my travels today. A lady
walking the Seneca Trail along the river took a picture of a male
hovering above the platform (seen from the bridge on Rte. 5 & 20, just
E. of MNWR entrance) & showed it to the lady at the desk. MNWR main
drive will open on 1 April.
The bald eagle on the Mud Lock nest was moving around, maybe turning her
eggs. An adult eagle was in a tree on Frontenac Island west of Union
Springs. Maybe someday the trees there will grow large enough for an
eagle to safely build a nest.
Many pintail ducks remain in the flooded field along Carncross Rd.. Nice
to see May's pool is flooded. Lots of muskrat houses will provide
nesting sites for Canadas & ducks & maybe the rats will keep the
cat-tail growth in check so birders can have better viewing.
