Just returned from a lengthy viewing of the RH woodpecker at the top of the knoll on the red trail in Palmer Woods between 9 and 10 am. The same behavior as Liisa described. It seemed to be feeding wherever it landed.
Thanks to this list I have been able to see an all-time favorite bird for the first time in this area and also learn of Palmer Woods. Thanks also to the Botanic Gardens for protecting this bit of predominantly oak woodland. Blue jays, red-bellied woodpecker(s), and a titmouse were also feeding in the woods this morning.
