I'll put out the word to some local falconers to see if anyone has lost a bird.

Subject: Re: [cayugabirds-l] Young fledgling Cedar Waxwings

Hi All,
Just piggybacking on Geo’s e-mail. I was walking on Baldhill Road, past where
Station Road meets, going up to the pinnacles, when a raptor shows up. I’m
guessing it’s a Cooper’s hawk, but I don’t know raptors well. It followed me
when I went off the road to check out the stream, and ended up hopping up to me
on a fallen log. It was about 7 feet away, and not the slightest bit afraid of
me. Then I noticed each leg had a piece of triangular leather wrapped around
it with holes for a string to go through. So it was somebodies pet raptor.
This was on Sunday and I’m sorry to have waited so long to post about it. I’m
assuming it was looking for a handout. Has anyone been missing a pet hawk?
