Much to my surprise, an immature Bald Eagle just flew toward my home on Rumsey Road, Trumansburg, from the east and flew very low over the field across the road for several minutes. An adult Red-tailed Hawk harassed the eagle until the eagle landed on the ground. The hawk then perched in a nearby tree to keep an eye on the situation. There's a slight dip in the field, which is where the eagle landed, so I can no longer see it. The light from the setting sun was perfect for seeing field marks, and I could easily see the enormous bill and that the talons were lowered in flight. There may be an animal carcass in the field that the hawk and eagle both want. What a thrilling way to end a beautiful November day.
