Merlin has twice misidentified a junco as a pine warbler in the last two days,
FWIW. Which is not to say you didn't hear a swamp sparrow, Alyssa -- just to
note that Merlin sometimes gets it wrong.

Best,
Sandra Babcock

I was just letting my dogs out, and heard a brief bird song that lasted about 5
seconds. I thought it was a junco trill at first, but I was half asleep so I
wasn’t sure. I started “listening” with Merlin in case it sang again, and
luckily it did. It was ID as a swamp sparrow, listed as rare where I am which
is Searsburg Rd in Trumansburg. It was also 1:40 AM… I played the song to see
if it sounded alike, and didn’t just take Merlin’s word for it. It sounded spot
on to me. Thoughts? I’ll be glad to share the recording.

I also heard two screech owls counter singing a very low tremolo back and forth
that Merlin picked up.

Hi All Birders,
This is a reminder that the Cayuga Bird Club is offering a walk-through and
explanation of our habitat improvement projects today down at Lighthouse Point
Woods. Meet at the Newman Golf Course club house at the west end of Willow
Avenue (go past the TCAT bus garage, and turn left at the T-intersection). We
will walk in the access road from the club house.

Come learn about our efforts to restore native vegetation and a functioning
ecosystem for birds in this seasonally flooded forest.

Thanks
Jody

Are using their new platform. After some ineffectual attempts to start their
2023 nest on the same electric pole as in past, they are both on the new
platform and have some sticks.

1 Brown Thrasher singing from a bare deciduous tree in the middle of Newman
Golf Course and 1 singing at entrance to Jetty Woods/Lighthouse Point/Cornell
Biological Field Station this morning. FOY for me as well, and always a treat.
