Very interesting because we saw a Northern Harrier this morning flying over the fields at the top of the arboretum along 366. Due to her size and strong appearance we guessed female although she was out of sight quickly heading East.

While walking our dog this morning, we observed two Northern Harriers in the Mt. Pleasant/Mineah fields—one the field by the Mt. Pleasant/Mineah intersection, the other on the field further down the abandoned part of Mineah road.  I unfortunately couldn’t tell if male or female, but as I know we’ve observed a male + female in that area a couple of years ago, I do wonder whether a pair of harriers might not be breeding in the area.

A hopeful thought in any case.

Cornell University is located on the traditional homelands of the Gayogo̱hónǫ' (the Cayuga Nation). The Gayogo̱hónǫ' are members of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, an alliance of six sovereign Nations with a historic and contemporary presence on this land. The Confederacy precedes the establishment of Cornell University, New York State, and the United States of America. We acknowledge the painful history of Gayogo̱hónǫ' dispossession, and honor the ongoing connection of Gayogo̱hónǫ' people, past and present, to these lands and waters.
