Wow! That's great! we are very proud that Amman will host the 1st Arabic CC
salon ever ;)
I will start to spread the word and to put some announcements on the net and
some cultural places here. I am sure there are some artists who are
interested in our salon and are ready to publish some work under CC
licenses.

> Dear all
> some updates concerning the first CC Arab Salon.
> So it seems that we'll be doing this in Amman inshallah on 16th Nov.
> thanks to the great support of the Royal Film Commission of Jordan
> that is going to host the event.
> It will be a rich event and plenty of great surprises:) but most of
> all it will be the first opportunity for Arab artists, musicians,
> filmakers, bloggers, photographers, journalists, media people etc. to
> showcase and discuss their works made under CC.
> CC Jordan, which is the first CC license in Arabic, will officially be
> launched on 15th November and this will open the way to the use of CC
> licensing in Arabic all across the Arab world inshallah
> In this perspective, the Salon is an extremely important step, cause
> it features artists, media outlets, IT people, who have used CC
> licenses for their work and would like to share the results of opening
> up their work. In a CC Salon people explain practically how they use
> CC licenses for their artistic works, which licenses they use and with
> which results. CC licenses are in fact not only for lawyers and law
> experts: the final goal is to encourage people to use them to make
> art, music, video, journalism, pictures, etc. People can learn from
> others’ experience and build up from previous knowledge.
> In the Arab world, due to the late development of copyright and CC,
> there is still only a little amount of work licensed under CC in
> Arabic. Therefore this Salon should serve to encourage the creation of
> more Arabic content for digital media and to increase the sharing of
> this knowledge created in Arabic.
> The support of RFC is therefore key: we share the same commitments for
> content production and knowledge sharing, and we would all like to see
> more works of art to be created and shared in the Arabic language over
> digital media
>
> We are still discussing with the friends in RFC the logistics and the
> details about the Salon. But this will be of course an open event
> where everybody is invited to take part.
> We just have a limitation of space and time in terms of artists that
> we can showcase at the RFC during the evening..but I guess we have
> also a limited number of artists using CC for their work in the Arab
> world:)
> Usually the Salon showcases people who have already made use of CC
> licenses and have a long experience in using it..but giving the
> peculiar situation of the Arab world and being CC at a young stage
> here, I will also encourage new CC users to submit their works and
> join us in Amman.
> I'd like to encourage you from our community subscribing to this list
> to help us figure out interesting people to invite, by telling us
> about intresting "local case studies" and also by encouraging local
> artists in your countries to use open licenses for their intellectual
> work and showcase it at the Salon.
>
> Now, for those of you who are interested to spread the word about the
> Salon locally in your country and/or thru your networks, I'll
> encourage you to send the list or myself by private email suggestions
> and portfolios of the artists that would like to be featured at the
> Salon (with at least some work, song, poetry, etc. released under
> CC!).

> WHAT IS A CC SALON? http://wiki.creativecommons.org/Salon

> CC Salons are global, informal events focused on building a community
> of artists, developers, and creators of all kinds around Creative
> Commons licenses, standards, and technology. The first event took
> place in San Francisco in 2006 with the idea to replicate in other
> locations internationally. Since then salons have sprung up in cities
> around the world (see the list online at
> http://wiki.creativecommons.org/Salon)
> The format for each event varies based on the location, but the
> overall concept is simple. CC Salons are open forums for people who
> are interested in the issues surrounding Creative Commons and global
> participatory culture.
>
> Pls do not hesitate to ask me any question. Anyway, this is just an
> update. More details to come later this week inshallah
