Marhaba everybody
kull 3am wa antu bi kheir!

I'd like to send all of you best wishes for 2010, despite the year has
already started a while ago..but in Italy as in the Arab world
festivities last a bit;-)

This was a great year for Creative Commons. We recently met our
fundraising goal for 2010 (http://creativecommons.org/weblog/entry/
20069) and that was thanks to the great community we have all across
the world.

This was also a great year for Creative Commons in the Arab world: we
had Al Jazeera opening the first ever CC released broadcast footage
repository (http://cc.aljazeera.net); the CC Jordan team completed the
first Arabic licenses ever, organised a bunch of conferences and
events in Jordan (http://www.jeeran.com/ccarabia/) and joined the
Internet Governance Forum in Egypt (http://www.intgovforum.org); the
first Creative Commons Salon was held in Amman (http://
wiki.creativecommons.org/Amman_Salon) and saw the participation of
many Arab artists, bloggers, filmmakers doing a variety of works.

Royal Film Commission held a first workshop dedicated to online
creativity with CC (http://blog.rfconlinemedia.net/), and we co-
organised the Global Entepreneurship week thanks to QRCE in Jordan )
http://bit.ly/8BkRlg).

Jeeran, the largest online user generated content community, launched
a dedicated CC channel in Arabic (http://creativecommons.org/weblog/
entry/18576) thanks to Laith and his team, Rami and Bassel.

We took part at the first ever Arab barcamp thanks to Rootspace
(http://bit.ly/5fwUnR), and Syria opened its doors to CC by organising
an amazing conference at Damascus University with the support of Al
Aous Publishing (http://www.discover-syria.com/news/5226).

We had the privilege to share discussions and debate opinions with
cool Arabs from everywhere all across the Arab world at Ahmad's CC
presentation during the last Beirut "Arab bloggers meeting" (http://
bit.ly/4Acswx) organised by Global Voices and Heirich Boell Shiftung.

All this was possible thanks to the great support of the organisations
I've just briefly mentioned but most of all thanks to you, the people
in the community, individuals that are working on a daily basis on
organising activities, meetings, discussions and are sharing their
work with the others.

We have seen our Arab community growing a lot and at a very fast rate,
increasing in numbers and energies. Day by day, more and more
bloggers, activists, artists, filmmakers in the Arab world are using
Creative Commons for their daily work and it will be impossible to
mention everybody in this post.
This is the richness of Creative Commons everywhere but particularly
in the Arab world. The Region is unique in its this cross-border
"Panarab" collaboration element which represents its "special touch"
and could serve as a model for future jurisdictions and regions.

That's why I would love, as a wish for the new year, to see this great
community getting more and more involved in what we do in the Arab
world.
I'd love if you could suggest and discuss about ideas and activities
to be put together and developed in the near future for the Region
It would be great to see the community more involved in debating and
planning the upcoming activities in order to come up with fresh new
ideas tailored on the needs of each country and local context.

So, please, during this new year let us know what are your wishes for
CC in the Arab world and how we could eventually improve what we are
doing in the Region according to what you feel it will be really
useful.

Yalla I hope this year we can all work more closely one to each other.
Thanks so much for this past exciting year spent together in the Arab
world..
