Subject: [cc-affiliates] Communications working group
To: [email protected]

Hi everyone!

At the summit, we discussed ways to improve communication across the
affiliate network.

We came up with the idea of establishing a working group where a few of us
get together to improve affiliate communications via specific projects, such
as:

   - assessing information architecture and exploring best tools to
   share/access resources w/each other
   - mailing lists in general don't seem to be working for discussion. Is
   there a better way?
   - developing more case
studies<http://wiki.creativecommons.org/Case_Studies> specific
to a certain domain (ie. journalism and
museums<http://wiki.creativecommons.org/GLAM>
    and gov
policy<http://wiki.creativecommons.org/Government_use_of_Creative_Commons>
are
   all hot right now)
   - one page fact sheets (ie. like resources under "physical media" at
   http://creativecommons.org/about/downloads)
   - sharing approaches on how to begin a conversation about CC with
   organizations/people/institutions in different domains
   - running an audit of all cc affiliate materials that are out there
   already

These were some needs
identified<http://wiki.creativecommons.org/Global_Summit_2011/Unconference/Communications>
at
the Summit to get the conversation started, but I'm sure there are others.

After discussion with the Regional Managers, we agreed the working group
should be open to all affiliates, and even non-affiliate members of the CC
community. We will form one working group in the beginning, and then
distribute ourselves according to the projects we want to work on. The goal
is to identify a few concrete projects that anyone can help with, without
sapping up huge reserves of energy and time. The benefits are clear,
however, since the resources and tools we improve and develop will be
reusable by all of us.

Jess and I will co-lead these activities with interested others, so we can
better share our best practices, talking points, presentations, strategies
for reaching out to governments, museums, educators, musicians, etc. Though
we have a lot of resources on the site and
wiki<http://wiki.creativecommons.org/>,
such as our Case Studies
<http://wiki.creativecommons.org/Case_Studies> project,
it's easy for a lot of it to get lost in the mix or forgotten about. How can
we improve communications on these important topics?

We can start small, with 1-2 hours/week as a time commitment, until we
identify the specific projects we want to work on.

If you're interested, please post to this thread! Then we can start forming
the group(s). And please feel free to pull in others that are not on this
list.

Best,
Jane
