Hi there
I`d like to share this great news: finally we have another broadcaster
on board sharing its content under CC, "unfortunately" it is in
Australia and not in the Arab world for the moment, but great news
indeed!we should convince some public broadcasters in the Arab world
to release their archives under CC if not PD..it`s common heritage and
should be available for everybody to see it
best

One for all those interested in use of CC licences by archives,
broadcasters or news organisations.

The ccAustralia team has just announced that the ABC (Australia's
largest public broadcaster) has released a selection of historical
television news segments under CC BY-SA for use on wikimedia:

This is part of a broader 'open archives' project the ABC is running,
releasing archival material of all sorts for re-use under CC licences:

The best bit is that these aren't obscure archival documents, but
rather polished broadcast segments about some of the most significant
events in Australian history. I particularly like this 1974 footage of
Arthur C Clarke predicting the internet, with uncanny accuracy.

My understanding is that this is one of the first times a major
broadcaster has released completed news stories (as opposed to raw
footage) under a CC licence. Though correct me if I'm wrong - and I'd
love to hear the details.
