Hi there so here you are the ideas that were discussed in our community call on the 19th Sept, attended by Naeema (Lebanon), Ryadh (Oman), Issa (Jordan) and , at a later stage, Chadi (Morocco)
The participants suggested that ,rather than doing big events and parties, they would probably do smaller outreach events and/or collaborative projects that have an online visibility and that can be used by the broader community (shared, remixed, etc ) *Events* - Riyadh will try to host an outreach local event in Muscat during the anniversary week. He would like to show films about CC that can teach the people how to use the licenses, what are the benefits etc. He is also interested in OER. Pls if you have any cool video to suggest (possibly in Arabic but also other languages are ok if it`s a cartoon or something very visual) contact him - CC Morocco will also host an event during the anniversary week, building on the Open Taqafa week that they hosted in July. The event will be in Casa or Rabat and they are still discussing the details, they will keep us updated * * *Collaborative projects* - the idea is to ask Taghreedat to provide the CC community with 10 or so words or expressions related to Internet culture (for ex. Open source, etc) that they have translated into Arabic. Each word or concept will be illustrated in a creative way by our CC artists (pls spread the word we`re looking for volunteers) in different Arab countries. Then we`ll make a illustrated pdf that will be circulated on the anniversary day to raise awareness on Internet culture, at the same time localizing these words into Arabic and explaining concepts and words in a creative way. If we find some sponsorship, we can also think to print a cozy booklet to distribute on the anniversary day in local events and at our regional meeting Pls if you are interested to join this initiative let me know asap as we decided to have a first brainstorming call with the artists who want to join quite soon in order to have the work ready by end of Oct inshallah - the other idea is to create localized slogans for CC in different dialects of the Arab world, then ask a local artist to design a Tshirt and print it for the anniversary. Then the Tshirts with different dialects could be exchanged from country to country (at a later stage maybe even remixed, you never know!). This will raise awareness of CC in different languages and make it more familiar to the people. A couple of examples: one came from our first CC Salon in Beirut , "CC: copyright 3ala keifak" (syrian-jordanian version) or "CC copyright a` la zuqak" (Lebanese version); or , as Naeema suggested Issa and the Jordanians: "Mansef ibda3i" to play with "Masha3 al ibda3i"..something ironic, appealing, and very local I`m looking into funds for this project but I`d like to know which countries want to join (for each country we need at least somebody who writes the slogan and somebody who design the Tshirt, and we need local help to print the Tshirts in each country )..quickly pls! *Campaigns* We might want to do something for the anniversary which is linked to freedom of the Internet`s campaigns, like the one currently being done in Jordan. We need to discuss more how to do this Here you are.
