Affiliates, We are looking forward to launching 4.0 on Monday! Here are some important updates on translations of the deed and chooser.
-------- Message summary: no new Transifex strings until after launch, afterward weekly update. Translations marked as reviewed Monday morning will be live at launch, others will be replaced by untranslated strings and may be updated weekly. -------- ==String update policy== Some of you who have been working on translations of the deed and chooser may have found the past week a bit chaotic. To cut down on the chaos, we are no longer taking requests to change strings for translations--what is currently in Transifex will be the strings that we will launch with. (Unless someone finds something so incorrect that we cannot possibly publish it--but I hope that enough readers have seen it that nothing like this is still there.) This means that translators will not have to keep checking back before Monday to be sure the strings have not changed before launch. However, we know that many of you will continue to find things that should be edited, especially during the translation process. Because of this, we are going to have a weekly update for translation strings: any further changes to the translation strings will happen once per week. Dan has proposed a process for this weekly update to give everyone time to catch up with translating the new strings: Tuesday mornings: * Release: Staging becomes production unless there are any issues that should block release. * Sources unfrozen: all changes accepted. Thursday evenings: * String freeze: No changes that change strings accepted. Monday mornings: * Sources frozen: No changes of any kind accepted. * Release QA: 24h of testing in which we can find any blocker issues. This would allow us to release weekly and give translators about 3.5 days to work on any new strings. If in any week there are issues that should block the update, we can simply skip that release but unfreeze the strings, so that we have an extra week to fix the problem. The schedule may change slightly depending on how this works for everyone, but the general idea should hold. ==Translation update schedule and launch day== This also means that new translations will go up once per week. As of now, translations of the deed and the chooser that are ready on Monday morning (for CC HQ--Pacific Time) will be published along with the 4.0 launch. Anything else will be held until the next update. Any translations not ready--where sufficient strings have not been marked as reviewed--will end up replaced by the untranslated English strings until the next update with a translation. (Finally, just to restate this, the translations don't need to be in their final form at launch: they can be changed even after launch, and updated in the weekly update. The wording you have on Monday does not have to be the wording you use forever.)
