[Sorry for the cross-post, and please forward to people interested in commons. Thanks!]
Dear all, ACIA (Internationl Workshop on Asia and Commons in the Information Age) will be taking place in Taipei, Taiwan on Jan 19 and 20, 2008: > http://meeting.creativecommons.org.tw/ ACIA challenges to bring with you as many ideas as you could! Aside from the main conference, we will also have a poster contest. We are especially looking for two themes: 1. the different ideas of "commons" in different Asian cultures, and 2. case studies of people or projects engaged in the commons in Asia. You can find more details in the call-for-poster section below (two themes!). * Prize: There will be a SURPRISE PRIZE for the winner of each theme! The winner will be judged by popular votes by workshop participants. * Who can participate? All those who have great ideas about the two themes! Those of you who may not be able to attend the conference, this is a great way for you to be part of it (and you may also win the PRIZE)! * In what language shall the submission be? English. (Unfortunately this seems to be the language that works for most judges of this contest.) * Dimension: A1 size, in portrait orientation (Width: 594 mm / 23.4 in, Length: 841 mm / 33.1 in) * Deadline: All submissions should be received by Jan 11 2008 (GMT-12). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Theme I: WHAT IS A "COMMONS"? Please help us to think about what the idea of "commons" is in different Asian cultures by giving an example (an object / a place / a practice, etc.) which may represent the idea of "commons" in the context of your culture. On the poster, please indicate which culture you wish to speak for, provide at least one image (or one main image with supporting images) and a short paragraph (approx. 300 words) to explain what it is and why it represents the idea of "commons". * Submission Options: Option 1 : (This option is for all interested submitters.) Submitters should put image(s) and the text together in a file of PDF or image format, and email the completed poster to Shun-ling Chen (shunling [at] gmail [dot] com) by Jan 11th 2008. You can either bring your own poster output to the workshop, or ask the workshop organizer to print your file to an A1-sized portrait poster (the print may vary in quality). Please indicate in your submission whether you would like the organizer to do the output. Option 2 : (This option is only for submitters who will attend the conference.) Submitters may send the image(s) and the text to Shun-ling Chen (shunling [at] gmail [dot] com) by Jan 11th 2008 to complete your submission procedure. Submitters then bring the print-outs of the images and/or text to the workshop venue and complete the poster on-site. The organizer will provide a blank A1-sized portrait poster. Submitter who chooses this option should put the poster together no later than 5 pm, Jan 18 th. Contact shunling [at] gmail [dot] com for any questions. --------------------------------------------------------------- Theme II: ASIA AND THE COMMONS CASE STUDY POSTER Those of you who participate in the Asia and the commons case study project may consider reconfigure your case study into a poster and provide a perspective on the "commons".
