indeed we might not have to ping the PPPoFR ones finally. Anyway, I will give a try to the multilink tip.

If the answer is still yes, then you have two methods.

First, you can do MLPPPoFR (multilink PPP over Frame-Relay).  Even though
you have only one interface, you can do a bundle of one.

In your virtual template, you'll use "ppp multlink group 1" and then create
interface multilink 1 where you'll have your IP address setup (and chap
info).

You can ping that one.

Another alternative is that you create a loopback with the IP address you
want on it.  Then you use "ip unnumbered lo #" on your virtual template.
