i Scott,

I ran a debug with port fast enabled and not enabled and is as shown below.

IEEE Protocol (802.1D) [Forward delay set to 12 seconds]

01-11-2008 19:20:33 Local7.Debug 1xx.27.188.34  1044: 2w4d: STP:
VLAN0100 Fa1/0/13 -> forwarding
01-11-2008 19:20:27 Local7.Debug 1xx.27.188.34  1037: 2w4d: STP:
VLAN0100 Fa1/0/13 -> learning
01-11-2008 19:20:21 Local7.Debug 1xx.27.188.34  1028: 2w4d: STP:
VLAN0100 Fa1/0/13 -> listening

interface FastEthernet1/0/13
 switchport access vlan 100
end

IEEE Protocol (802.1D) [Forward delay set to 12 seconds PF-enabled]

01-11-2008 19:23:57 Local7.Error 1xx.27.188.34  1064: 2w4d:
%LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface FastEthernet1/0/13, changed state to up
01-11-2008 19:23:55 Local7.Debug 1xx.27.188.34  1060: 2w4d: STP:
VLAN0100 Fa1/0/13 ->jump to forwarding from blocking
01-11-2008 19:23:53 Local7.Debug 1xx.27.188.34  1055: 2w4d: STP:
VLAN0100 Fa1/0/13 ->jump to forwarding from blocking

interface FastEthernet1/0/13
 switchport access vlan 100
 spanning-tree portfast
end

Without portfast, the forward delay was a expected 12 seconds as per
the time stamps of the log. But with portfast, the port jumped to
forwarding immediately after I plugged in the PC.

By the way, I am using a CAT3750 Switch. Are things different with CAT3550/60?

Sharath
