Hey Richard,

So far as I know on newer versions of IOS it is required to make the keys
active. When I was studying I just got into the habit of ALWAYS doing this,
and I would encourage you to do the same. Just make it part of your
routine, and you won't have to worry. Believe me, it can be a pain in the
butt when your EIGRP peers won't come up and you have no idea why, only to
find out your keys are not yet valid because of either you forgetting this
command, or your system clock : )

Subject: [OSL | CCIE_RS] Key Chains for RIP and EIGRP Authentication

Does anyone know when it is required to use the
send-lifetime/accept-lifetime commands when using Key Chains for either RIP
or EIGRP?

Thanks,
Rich
