Telnet : A simple TCP based Client/Server program to connect a device on
its Virtual-Terminal on port 23.

When one "Telnet"s a device you connect to its IP on port 23 which is by
default TELNET program's port. Thereafter what happens is TCP/IP
communication.

This would be my answer in an Interview........lol [IMAGE]

  Checkout RFC 854. Like most RFCs it's pretty dry ;)

  I would suggest you wiresharked a telnet session between your laptop
  and a
  lab router to see what happens. The telnet protocol decoder should be
  pretty
  good.
