Hey guys sorry cut into everyones study time, I have a question regarding the PIM-ASSERT Winner. On a shared segment like Ethernet when multi-cast enabled devices decide who will forward on the segment they elect a "winner" on the basis of Administrative Distance and Cost. If the values are a tie the tie breaker is the ip address of the devices. I have seen several websites and some materials that say the highest address is the winner. But the RFC says the highest is discarded. Just for my edification does anyone know for sure which is which?
