Yes it is directly connected. I even tried multi-hop and changing the update source to my loopback, just in case the backbone is pointing to something different. I just thought it was really strange that I am not seeing ANYTHING in debug output.

If not, try multihop. On Thu, Aug 27, 2009 at 2:22 PM, Mashburn, Vince <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> wrote: I am having an issue that I need some assistance with. I am trying to peer 2 routers via BGP, one I have access to the other one I don't. I can ping the peering address of the other router, but BGP will not peer. I have verified with the owner of the backbone router that I am to peer with the physical address on the network that he and I share and I have verified all the AS info is correct. I do not see any information in BGP or TCP debugs. I even tried to change my ASN to something incorrect to see if I would get the "Peer in Wrong AS" warning. But I received nothing. I cannot telnet to the router on TCP 179 either. Does anyone have an idea as to what is going on here? BTW, this is a mock lab from a vendor who will not let me see the configs of the backbone router.
