According to the CCIE R&S V4 Syllabus and Ask the Expert the required technology is MPLS VPN. No need to studty cell mode MPLS, AToM, traffic engineering, Multi Protocol iBGP, multipath MPLS. Even though MPLS VPN may introduce you into some SP technology it's a good thing!
