Hi Raghvendra,

Currently for SP I am using the IPExpert .net file written by Tyson
(??). I have modified it to suit my directory structure and other
needs. I am using the IOS specified in the syntax. If you can keep
the same IOS on all your boxes then you can use features that allow
one instance of IOS for all router instances, as well as sharing the
booting portions of RAM between every router... So say if you have
128MB RAM for each box, in theory you need n x 128MB RAM. Without
using too many dazzling dynamips buzzwords or terms you can share the
portion of RAM tat IOS loads into on boot as a well as other things,
thus saving resources on your PC.

FWIW - my setup is a ~2 year old Ubuntu box with a Core2Duo 2.6GHZ (I
think) CPU with 4GB RAM. This handles the IP Expert topology no
worries.

Dynamips can never be as good as the real thing. There are some
quirks such as things not quite working where a real router might,
plus you dont know if the reason why something is not working is
because of your stuff up or because of some dynamips quirk.

Finally, Routers and rack rental do rule supreme... Despite the fact
people like myself advertise how we passed on virtual device alone -
most of the people like me work on the stuff in complex environments
every day to compensate for this, Also remember the topology of your
favourite rack vendor will 100% match the topology in your workbook
plus if it breaks you can fall back on the vendor's support group.

Think of this way... Dynamips is like staying at home and having a
wank while real racks is like going out and getting laid. Both can
get you the same result in the end but which one does the trick
properly and is more satisfying?

Cheers,
Matt
