Darby Weaver, The name rings a bell, and I am POSITIVE that the guy could run
circles
around me in knowledge. However, if you have read about him you will
know that he says he's done "Every major vendor study materials and
been to every bootcamp, class etc" That's not a direct quote of course,
but if you do any digging on ccie flyer, his site etc that's what it
comes down to.
He's taking the lab I think 3 or 4 times. He's used "every vendor" but has not
passed.
I am learning from him and dedicating to one vendor, doing ALL the
labs, then maybe doing another "mock lab" from another vendor to see if
I can nail that too. But I think pulling yourself in different
directions will make you lack focus, dedication and
I know Joe Astorino was interviewed by Darby Weaver. I respect Darby very much,
I do feel however that by him trying every vendor out there actually hurts him.
Take Joe Astorino Vs Darby Weaver looking purely at preparation methods.
Joe if I am wrong, correct me :)
Joe Astorino - used single vendor approach IPexpert of course. Read the CCIE RS
guide 3rd edition and passed the written with that, then did labs and workbooks
from Ipexpert along with VOD.
Darby Weaver - Used lots and lots of vendors, nmc, some guy from germany (some
master class or something) INE, Ipexpert bootcamp and I believe some other
vendor too. You can dig around and he lists them as well.
Ok, so who passed - Joe Astrorino. Why?
My opinion, maybe I'll get slapped maybe not. Joe Astorino indirectly has
wooped my mind into thinking differently. His approach, his dedication and FOCUS
on ONE thing at a time I believe is instrumental to his success and why he is
a CCIE and Darby is not.
I have taken after Joe Astorino as I feel FOCUS on ONE thing at a time and not
looking to far ahead, or thinking Vendor B will have something different.
Sometimes I feel bored and get itchy to see what someone else offers, but it's
that "Grass is greener on the other side" and although I have watched some INE
materials, I don't feel they are telling me anything different. If you know
your stuff, you know your stuff period. I will add that maybe adding a mock lab
from another vendor after you finish with IPexpert will just solidify you in
case you need a boost.
Soooooooo. That's my spill, it's been on my mind since May 2009 when I passed
my CCNA and decided to finish the CCNP and then to the CCIE.
Again, this is NOT me saying bad things about Darby Weaver, I believe he is
extremely talented and I have all the respect for him. I just think that this
piece of the pie in regards to study might need some closer inspection. :)
Who agrees that too many vendors is a bad thing?
Who agrees that focus on one thing at a time, master and move on works better?
Who has some other magical method that they think is "the cats meow"?
