Well .. to make things easier there is a cli which will tell you that
diameter of X will give what values for hello , dead and max age .
This is available in all cat based switches . Please see below :


SW8#test spanning-tree diameter 2
diameter 2 and hello time 2 gives max age = 10 and forward delay 7
SW8#
SW8#test spanning-tree diameter 3
diameter 3 and hello time 2 gives max age = 12 and forward delay 9
SW8#


So you can play around and set the diameter accordingly .
