Ive said this before, and I'll say it again...

Trying to mimic the lab by trying to simulate the environment lulls
one into a false sense of security. One example being trying to find
the identical terminal emulator. If you go to the lab, and find your
simulated experience is slightly different from the real one which you
got so accustomed to then you may be in trouble with over-nervousness.
I think you should deliberately NOT have the same terminal emulator,
the same chair, and the same whatever else in the real lab because you
will never get it 100% right. Never ever. It is better to know that
it will be totally different than to try and gain a false experience
and be knocked for six when sit down in your favourite testing centre.

FWIW, the first time I ever used SecureCRT was when I sat my lab. My
terminal programs I used were OSX Terminal.app and the Gnome terminal
for Ubuntu (whatever thats called). On Windows I use Putty and
TerraTerm Pro (Mainly Putty). On OSX Expose makes handling multiple
terminal windows VERY easy.

One thing I like to do is have one terminal open for each device, and
lay the windows out in a similar fashion to what the physical topology
is. So if I see some message pop up on the router in the middle and
towards the left, I can see on my diagram straight away what router is
having a hissy fit.

All subjective, all my opinion of course. :)

Cheers,
Matt
