I have resolved the issue

But I do believe I would have got the same result with the commands
mentioned in the DSG.

My conclusion (without testing all scenarios)

If I used my solution with multiple OSPF neighbours then I would have only
changed the distance on 1 neighbour that I specified as opposed to all
neighbours that resulted in " inter-area" or "external" ospf routes (at
least in this case)

You have answered it but if you configured either of them what are the
results of doing so?

Remember in the CCIE lab exam unless there are restrictions your focus
should be on the results of your configuration, meaning is what is asked
being accomplished, not on how you configured it.

Hi Tyson,

distance - allows me to set the distance using an access-list which in this
case allowed me to be "more" specific

distance ospf - sets the distance for an entire group (inter, intra, and
external)

I want to make sure that my answer is also correct and that I would have
been awarded the points

Thanks Tyson!

Jason,

What is the difference between the two? If you can understand that then you
will have your own answer to your question.

I solved it with

R4

__

router ospf 1

 distance 19 56.56.56.5 0.0.0.0

R5

__

router ospf 1

 distance 19 24.24.24.4 0.0.0.0

DSG solved it with

R4

__

router ospf 1

 distance ospf external 19

R5

__

router ospf 1

 distance ospf inter-area 19

Does anyone see any issues in the way I solved it versus the DSG?
