Vol2 Lab 3 Task 4.3 I do not believe the solution in the DSG meets the stated requirements for this task. The task says that R7 should see two equal bgp paths to AS 111 and to make R6 the preferred path for AS111 routes and a backup for all other routes. Similarly R5 should be a backup for the AS111 routes and primary for all other routes. The task restricts use of weight, as path, or communities.
The obvious choice is to use local pref and that is in fact what the DSG does. However the DSG sets the local pref for all routes received from R6, not for only the routes in AS111. The verification in the book actually shows a route which originates in AS3550 as proof that you are preferring it from R6 (when you should be preferring it from R5). -Marc
