Hi List,

My first thread, so be nice ;)

I have gone through 11 labs now and have some questions about some of the
end results and also about how much extra config I should do.

In lab 11, as I was finishing up checking things, I noticed that I had full
reachability to all of the loopbacks (200.0.0.1 - 14). BUT, when I loaded
the final configs (as I like to compare with my own after I complete the
lab), I noticed that the final configs that were loaded did NOT have all
loop reachability. So I took an extra hour or so and skimmed my configs and
compared them with the final configs with the help of the Detailed Solutions
Guide, and noticed that in those task items, many of them do not include a
network statement on most of the routers for the loopbacks to be advertised.
I've had this situation in another lab or two where minor things might still
be broken in the end (don't remember which one's right off).

Also, in Lab 2, the Detailed Solutions guide makes an assumption in task 1
where after setting up Cat3 as VTP server, it then goes on to configure the
other 3 switches as clients. I somehow do not agree with that extra
configuration. (Even though the task says nothing about the other 3 switches
or hints at having just one other VTP server and the rest as clients) I like
to have at least 2 VTP servers per domain incase one dies. Then in task 2,
you have to turn right around and make Cat1 a server, when the entire time,
had the Guide not made the other 3 switches clients in the first place,
there's no need to make any changes.

Since this is just the Volume 1 labs (which I understand to be about the
individual protocol), do I still need to worry about things like the above??
Full network reachability .... tasks that specify to do or not to do
something by which you might add extra config to follow BCP's, etc

It would seem to me that in some labs the solution guide makes some
assumptions and does extra config that the task doesn't require (or any
other task in the entire lab for that matter). Is this what I SHOULD be
doing as well?? Solutions of isdom for the actual lab?? I don't like to make
assumptions, but I know some of the questions are vague and I don't have a
proctor behind me to clarify ;)

I guess I get confused on some of the tasks about how to go about doing what
is asked and how much extra config is needed as long as I satisfy the
requirement. Then on top of that, I check my work against the solutions
guide to find out I missed some config ... but I still successfully
completed the task.

Any comments, rants, bashing, questions, etc .... all welcome as I would
like to hear others thoughts and experiences on my concerns.

Sorry for the long rant!!

TIA,
M
