The number after the logging command controls what level of syslog messages
will be displayed on the console or buffer.
When you see a syslog message on a device on the left hand side you will see
the severity level of the log message

For example, Jan 16 03:56:08.346: %SYS-5-CONFIG_I: Configured from console
by console is severity level 5 also known as notifications.
Here is a list of the various levels.

Router(config)#logging console ?
  <0-7> Logging severity level
  alerts Immediate action needed (severity=1)
  critical Critical conditions (severity=2)
  debugging Debugging messages (severity=7)
  emergencies System is unusable (severity=0)
  errors Error conditions (severity=3)
  filtered Enable filtered logging
  guaranteed Guarantee console messages
  informational Informational messages (severity=6)
notifications Normal but significant conditions (severity=5)
  warnings Warning conditions (severity=4)
  xml Enable logging in XML

Subject: [OSL | CCIE_RS] Logging Consol 7

Hi All,

I would like to understand the command of loggign , I have seen some
examples that used to debug the ppp negotiation where the debugger used
command " logging consol 7 " follwed by "logging buffer 6 " then " logging
buffer size 999999" and ends with " show log " to see the debug information
.

I know that " logging buffer size 999999 " is used to increase the buffer
size as the debug of ppp could be infinite and if you did show it on the
consol it can oversize the consol buffer and log you out of the router .

If any one deals with this , hope to clarify the meaning and the details .

Good luck for you all
Yours,
Waleed
