Hi Ray, I wish I could give you some better insight on timing, but since I have two attempts under my belt without a pass I don't have that mastered yet. It's my opinnion that reading through and diagramming the topology will depend on your particular lab. My first attempt I didn't diagram and it cost me dearly and so I had decided that I defininetly would on my second attempt. When I went back for my second attempt I read through the workbook in maybe 5-10 minutes max and no diagramming was required. So, I'd say it's very subjective to the tasks that you're dealt. Just my two cents.
