I found an easy to use, stand alone Windows executable for finding and
replacing text. Much easier than perl, and sufficient for this task...
Stupid name, but it works.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/fart-it/

I put the IPexpert initial configs in a folder called "initial", and a
run batch file that calls fart.exe with commands like this:

fart initial\r1.txt "FastEthernet0/1" "FastEthernet1/0"

There's a good tutorial on IpX site that walks you through how to create
the .net file. I followed the instructions and created a working
topology,
'Gold' topology.net file that I copy for each lab. The topology is
always
the same for the most part so you can remove certain routers from the
.net
file to meet the specific lab. The important part is to modify the
starting
config to account for the different router models. I.e int s1/0 instead
of
s0/1/0. Find and replace is your friend, or if you know perl and whatnot
you can create a script to go through all the configs to change them All
at
once.
