I don't want to speak for Marko, but I'd assume the reasons for that
recommendation include:

MST is more efficient -- it runs the exact number of STP instances needed
to get maximum use of the physical topology, no more and no fewer. No extra
BPDUs or CPU cycles spent running 50 STP instances over the same link.

MST is more scalable -- Many Cisco switches can only run 128 STP instances.
While some environments *might* actually have more than 128 VLANs, few
would ever have more than 128 physical topology options.

MST is more compatible -- Most other vendors do an MST implementation. No
one else does R-PVST or regular PVST+. Sure, (R)PVST+ will interoperate
with traditional CST by working around it but it's always better to run a
homogeneous protocol throughout the domain to avoid any loss of information

All that said, I rarely deploy MST mainly because it's more complex for
someone who isn't familiar with it and I have never really run into an
issue with even 128 instances of RPVST+. I usually deploy Rapid myself but
I see the appeal of MST.
