I have the same problem.
The following is the gear I have and significant problems I'm aware of;
R1 - 2610XM (MPLS, EIGRPv3, IPS -problems)
R2 - 2610XM (MPLS, EIGRPv3, IPS -problems)
R3 - 2611XM (MPLS, EIGRPv3, IPS -problems)
R4 - 1841 (MPLS, IPv6, etc -no problem)
R5 - 1841 (MPLS, IPv6, etc -no problem)
R6 - 1841 (MPLS, IPv6, etc -no problem)

I had originally started out with this image on the 2600's -c2600-adventerprisek9-mz.124-10a.bin. To solve the MPLS issues, I downgraded the IOS to c2600-adventerprisek9-mz.123-26.bin. I didn't see any *real* drawbacks or changes other than not being able to configure ospf in interface configuration mode.During the mpls labs I was doing, I didn't have to configure IPv6 so I didn't have any real problems that.

I also built a lab in GNS3 following this guide:
http://blog.ipexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/GNS3-on-Windows-71.pdf

The IOS image used in GNS3 allows for all the configurations (features) so no problem there. My main box is pretty well equipped with processor power, memory, and plenty of NICs - So no problem connecting to real switches. I don't like the feel of GNS3. And it's easy for me to get distracted with gns3, and I end up spending my time tweaking gns3 rather than doing the actual labs. So I would rather just downgrade the 2600XM's and work through those.

Next I started doing a lab that calls for EIGRPv3, and guess what? the 12.4 image doesn't support EIGRPv3. I found that 12.4T supports it, but of course I needed more flash to support it. Luckily, I had some extra flash lying around, and upgraded the 2600's that didn't have it to 48MB of flash. I used this image c2600-adventerprisek9-mz.124-15.T14.bin. - which is around 32MB

Next I ran into setting up the IPS on IOS. Of course it was to be done on R1. Which has 128DRAM. I couldn't successfully load the signature package into the routers memory. I was able to do it on my 2611XM with 256DRAM.

My SW3&SW4's are 3550's and of course IPv6 doesn't work at all. I put devices behind them to provide that IPV6 L3 addressing they needed. Of course there are potential issues with this. But I don't remember having any real significant problems.

Those are the issues I'm aware of. I'm sure there's more. I would say the main issue (I'm aware of) is with using the 2600's for EIGRPv3 and MPLS labs at the same time. I don't know of any image that can do them both at the same time. I'm not even sure if there are any labs that cover both those feature(topics) at the same time.

I've had to get really creative to lab. Good luck. There's also the IOU, I've never used it and I can't say if it's a real option. But at the end of the day, I also wanted to keep the gear I purchased originally.

Hi all -

I was happily cruising along with my new (to me) rack and hit a brick wall with MPLS. My R6 for the IPX topology is a 2621XM. And no matter what I
can't seem to find a version of IOS that will allow me to run MPLS.

I'm currently running c2600-spervicesk9-mz.124-25c.bin. I'd previously had
loaded c2600-advipservicesk9-mz.124-25d.bin.

When I go to the config there just plain aren't any commands that start
with "mpls".

Can anyone tell me if there's a better version I should be running, or am I going to be having to order another model router to replace this thing? I'm hoping not because that means I'll have to order serial cards as well and
that's just a pain I'd like to avoid.

The rack I built for use with IPX labs uses a 2801 in the R6 position. Th=

also works well because the interfaces match up exactly with the topology=

No, there are no MPLS-enabled versions for XM Routers.
At least not a 12.4 IOS version.

You'll find some 12.3 IOS versions that implement MPLS.
But of course that would be a bit old. =A0The command syntax may be diffe=
rent.

So I think that you should replace it with a 2811.
2811's are very cheap these days, compared to what they used to cost.
In fact, they nos cost almost the same as XM Routers.

Hope this helps.
