Benjamin has a point,
it's not only CPU that is used, also disk access


if you only have to 'write' the files of 1 project, that'll be fast

but if the the write time of the disks has to be divided between 40
projects, there will be more time spent on
overhead than on the actual writing.

but if you have 64gig of memory, maybe you can make a ramdisk what should
counter this effect
