Greetings,
Our apologies for the off-topic posting!

We are currently considering a yearly symposium of crystallographers (and allied trades) in the Tri-State/Ohio Valley area. The current version is fairly pliable and unformed, but is likely to be something on the following lines:

0.        Geography & coverage area - Ohio Valley with extension into the Tri-State for as far as the participants are willing to travel on their own. Obviously we welcome participants from anywhere else :)

1.         Science - anything related to macromolecular crystallography, with primary emphasis on interaction between scientists, sharing of techniques and technologies, etc. rather than just new structures. This may change if there is significant interest in other areas.

2.         Participants - academic and industrial macromolecular crystallographers and allied scientists. Since this is (to be) a local meeting, we hope that whole groups are able to make it (i.e. the PI as well as postdocs/grad students), since travel and lodging expenses should be minimal to none. We would like to make a strong emphasis on inviting young talent, which is why we're committed to having this meeting at no cost to participants.
3.         Meeting Location - we have arranged for a meeting facility at the P&G Pharmaceuticals campus in Mason, OH which should accommodate 100+ people. Lunch & refreshments will also be provided at no cost to the participants. If the number of people interested in coming greatly exceeds our initial estimate, we may have to seek alternative accommodations and additional sponsorship.

4.         Fees/Grants - we do not expect to collect any conference fees. Conversely, at the moment we do not expect to be able to sponsor travel/accommodations for the participants. This may change as the meeting gains more definition, or if additional sponsors emerge - however we would like to keep the meeting 100% free for the participants, in view of point (2).

5.        Organizers - at the moment Dr. Artem Evdokimov from P&GP and Dr. Andrew Herr from UC are the Organizing Committee. Volunteer help is always gratefully accepted, but at the moment we are not far enough into the preparation process to know what sort of help we will need.
6.        Timing - to be decided. Probably early/mid Winter.

In view of the above, would you be interested in this meeting ? We would like to gauge the participation and level of interest, prior to making the next steps and placing a formal announcement. If you have comments, wishes, ideas, etc. please do not hesitate to email Artem and Andrew directly:

Thank you!
Artem & Andrew
