The Structural Molecular Biology (SMB) group of Stanford Synchrotron Radiation 
Laboratory (SSRL, a division of SLAC) at Stanford University has an immediate 
opening for a Beam Line scientist. The successful candidate will work as a 
member of the Structure Determination Core (SDC) of the Joint Center for 
Structural Genomics (JCSG). The JCSG is one of four production centers funded 
by the NIH/NIGMS Protein Structure Initiative. The primary goal of the JCSG is 
to operate a high-throughput pipeline for macromolecular structure 
determination (see http://www.jcsg.org). The Beam Line scientist will provide 
beamline support for the JCSG group. These duties include the preparation of 
beamline equipment prior to JCSG beam time and the troubleshooting of 
hardware/software problems during the experiments. He/she will assist in the 
optimization of beamline optics and in the maintenance, development and testing 
of beamline instrumentation. He/she will participate in data collection and cr!
 ystal
screening activities, and will also assist in structure determination and 
refinement.
