A
postdoctoral position is available at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry
in Martinsried (Germany), Department Membrane
Biochemistry. Funding is available for one year with an option for extension
till November 2008. The position starts at the earliest possible date.
The
competitive project will involve structural (X-ray crystallography) and
biochemical analysis of a large protein complex. Working on this project, the
candidate will join a highly motivated small team. _expression_, purification and
crystallization protocols are already established. Low resolution data is
available. You will receive (technical) assistance in protein preparation to
fully concentrate on work at the interface of crystal improvement and data
processing. The specific techniques required for the project include, but are
not restricted to: protein crystallization, X-ray data collection and
processing, and crystallographic structure determination and refinement. Ideally
the candidate has experience with solving large protein complexes. The ultimate
goal of the project is to solve the structure of the target
protein.
The
Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry and Department of Membrane Biochemistry is
extremely well equipped for the project which the candidate will pursue. At the
Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry you will find an encouraging atmosphere,
having access to a lot of other state of the art facilities within the
building.
The
group has at least monthly access to synchrotron radiation sources for X-ray
data collection at the SLS (Zurich) and the ESRF
(Grenoble) and
the candidate is expected to participate and lead trips to these facilities.
