You can also just try restarting the OSX machine. This will clear
all processes, and reset the system. On occasion, processes may not
exit properly and build up in the system until the limit is hit. I
ran into this once (a PowerBook I hadn't restarted in many months)
and a restart fixed the problem.
If the problem continues, you can increase the limit like Brian
suggested.
Cheers,
Jeff

Google seems to think that your error can be caused by having too many
processes open, or running out of virtual memory. I'm guessing
that you
you've maxed out the process limit, since it is set fairly low in
Tiger.
Check here[1] and follow the instructions.

Dear All,
After carrying out a routine fink update about a week ago and then
trying to run CNS 1.1 (on PowerBook G4; under Mac OSX 10.4.8) it
fails with the following error message:
/sw/bin/cns:7: fork failed: resource temporarily unavailable
cns_solve or cns not found
I have followed William Scott's advice and put the following file
http://xanana.ucsc.edu/Library/init/zsh/local-functions/xtal/cns
into /sw/share/xtal/cns_solve_1.1/bin/; since in /sw/bin there are
pointers (as I understand to this directory) such as cns -> /sw/
share/
xtal/cns_solve_1.1/bin/cns.zsh
Unfortunately it did not seem to have solved my problem.
I am still digging around but cannot find out where the problem lies.
Does anybody have a fix?
(Why use cns at all: I would like to calculate SA omit maps for a
finished lower resolution model).
Regards,
Florian
