We are making strides with /prog/setup and /prog/ports, and a revision
to beta is in the making. Have a look...

Project Description:
ProgPorts is an administrative and easy user interface to hundreds of
proteomics, molecular dynamics, and protein crystallography programs. It
is a hybrid of the prog/setup system, developed at Johns Hopkins
University, and GNU-Darwin ports system.

If you have used /prog/setup before, you might be interested in this
terminal shot in order to see some of the improvements.
