Open positions - Karolinska Institutet Structural Genomics Consortium Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics Core Scientist - X-ray crystallography (PhD), Ref. no 00171/2007 We seek an X-ray crystallographer to be main responsible for X-ray crystallography within SGC Stockholm. Duties include: responsibility for X-ray diffraction and crystallisation equipment, maintenance of X-ray crystallography software, protein structure determination, to train other scientists in use of crystallisation and X-ray diffraction equipment. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record within structural biology and a strong publication list. - A deep understanding of state-of-the-art crystallography hardware - Mastering state-of-the-art crystallography software - Experience from lab automation in general, crystallisation automation in particular. - Capable of adhering to strict time lines. - Excellent documented organisational, communicative and teamwork skills. Starting date: as soon as possible, Application deadline: Feb 9 The project is currently applying for extended funding from January 1, 2008 and the position is therefore only offered for the period until Dec 31 2007 at present. Should the project receive additional funding (decision expected by the summer of 2007) the position will be extended accordingly. Research Scientist Structural Biochemistry (PhD), Ref. no 00170/2007 The Structural Biochemistry teams drive protein structure determination projects including all steps from cloning, bacterial expression, protein purification, protein crystallisation and X-ray diffraction analysis. We seek a Research Scientist to join one of our teams primarily pursuing protein targets involved in phosphoinositol and lipid signalling. Main tasks include bacterial expression, purification and crystallisation of protein targets. Suitable candidates should have experience from similar work. Requirements: - Significant experience from all aspects of protein chromatography - Protein over-expression in bacterial hosts - Protein crystallisation experience, including analysis of crystallisation experiments, will be considered an advantage - A structured work mode - Good communicative skills - Capable of adhering to strict time lines Starting date: March 1, Application deadline: Feb 2 For further information contact Johan Weigelt, Chief Scientist SGC Stockholm (+46 (0)8 524 86840, [EMAIL PROTECTED]) or visit http://sgc.ki.se/. Please send your application containing the names and contact details of at least two reference person to: Karolinska Institutet MBB/Structural Genomics Consortium 171 77 Stockholm The Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC) is a not-for-profit organization that aims to determine the three-dimensional structures of proteins of medical relevance, and place them in the public domain without restriction. The initiative was launched in Oxford and Toronto in April 2003 with funding from Canadian and British sponsors from both the public and private sectors (The Wellcome Trust, GlaxoSmithKline, Genome Canada, the Ontario Research and Development Challenge Fund, the Ontario Innovation Trust and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research). In 2005, a consortium of Swedish sponsors (VINNOVA, SSF, KAW and KI) provided funds to the SGC and a Swedish node was launched at Karolinska Institutet. The goal of the SGC is to develop the infrastructure and technologies necessary for rapid, parallel structure determination, with the aim of having the capability to determine more than 200 protein structures per year. Over the first three years, the SGC is targeting 400 proteins that have relevance to human health and disease, such as proteins associated with diabetes, cancer, and infectious diseases such as malaria. Targets are also chosen based on interest from the academic and pharmaceutical communities, expertise within the Consortium and scientific impact. ________________________________ Johan Weigelt, PhD MSc Chief Scientist Structural Genomics Consortium Karolinska Institutet, MBB/SGC 171 77 Stockholm, Sweden http://sgc.ki.se/ Tel: +46 8 524 86840 Mob: +46 70 245 2868 Fax: +46 8 524 86868 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
