POSTDOCTORAL POSITION in protein engineering for nano-material development

This is an interdisciplinary project that aims at the design and production of
tailor-made protein building blocks for the development of biomaterials.

The candidate will be in charge of the molecular design, genetic manipulation,
expression and purification of protein chimeras, which either bear functional
groups or assemble spontaneously into nano-arrays. Tasks will also include the
analysis of samples using diverse biophysical techniques, including EM and
X-ray crystallography, directed to validate the design principles.

Requirements: solid expertise in cloning and protein production and
purification. A background in protein engineering as well as some familiarity
with a structural or biophysical technique will be of distinct advantage,
although it is not a pre-requisite to qualify for the position.

This position is part of a cooperation between the Division of Structural
Biology at Biozentrum in Basel and the School of Biological Sciences of the
University of Liverpool, UK. The work will be initially carried out at
Biozentrum in Basel, but it is expected that at a later stage the candidate
will become primarily based in UK. Thus, candidates with mobility will be given
high priority for this appointment.

The Division of Structural Biology at Biozentrum is fully equipped for the
structural analysis of proteins and large assemblies using NMR, electron
microscopy, atomic force microscopy and X-ray crystallography. The School of
Biological Sciences of the University of Liverpool is a RAE-5 rated department,
which counts (among its multiple core facilities) with a newly established
high-filed NMR center and an extensive participation in the new Institute for
Nanoscale Science and Technology. In addition, both Basel and Liverpool enjoy
outstanding multi-cultural offers, splendid historical settings and beautiful
natural surroundings for sport and free-time activities.

The position is now available for immediate incorporation.

Applications should be directed to [EMAIL PROTECTED] They should be in the
form of a comprehensive CV, a one-page summary of past work and contact details
for two referees.

NOTE: due to administrative restrictions, only candidates working in an EU
laboratory at the time of application can be considered for this opening.
