*BIOPHYSICIST*
Job # 20882
The Physical Biosciences Division of LBNL is accepting applications for
a biophysicist be a part of an interdisciplinary team to help operate,
maintain, and improve the small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) station in
the SIBYLS (12.3.1) beamline at the Advanced Light Source (ALS). The
successful candidate will conduct collaborative and independent research
to address questions of structural cell biology relevant to
multi-component protein complexes and conformations. Research focus will
be on IDAT (Integrated Diffraction Analysis Technologies) efforts to
combine SAXS and crystallography. Specific research programs include the
SBDR (Structural Biology of DNA repair) as well as MAGGIE (Molecular
Assemblies, Genes, and Genomics Integrated Efficiently).
Approaches may include:
(1) Static and time-resolved studies by SAXS of biological
macromolecules in solution
(2) Crystallographic studies of purified protein and those complexes
(3) Integration of crystallographic and solution data to obtain
biologically relevant structures
(4) Supervised biochemical and biophysical assays to defined functional
state and activities of these macromolecular assemblies
*Qualifications:*
*Biophysicist with high level expertise in small angle X-ray scattering
*Research experience in protein crystallography, protein biochemistry,
molecular biology and structural biology, especially in relation to DNA
repair genes, proteins, and multi-protein complexes
*3+ years experience in synchrotron-based research using complex
instrumentation and computer controls
*Experience with alternative small angel scattering techniques,
particularly with home source X-ray scattering and Neutron scattering
techniques
*Expertise in protein diffraction techniques, biophysical software for
structure determinations, or synchrotron instrumentation
*Expertise in molecular dynamics computation
*Note*: This is a one-year, career-track term appointment, renewable
based on funding availability and employee performance.
