Job description: The primary duty is to implement the scientific training programme of the EMBL Hamburg Unit. This will involve: - Coordination, teaching (where appropriate) and active participation in the organisation of the scientific programme for user-training courses, workshops, lectures, demonstrations and open days; - Creating and updating tutorials, workbooks and eLearning materials in liaison with EMBL faculty. Making course materials available on the web, in close liaison with EMBL Hamburg services (IT, administration); - Interacting closely with the EMBL International Centre for Advanced Training [EICAT] to optimise the use of EMBL¡¦s training facilities;
- Applying for training-related funding;
- Gathering and analysing training statistics, and promoting training events in liaison with other staff members.

The position will require extensive interactions with the Group and Team Leaders of EMBL-Hamburg Unit. There will be an option to complement these tasks by an active contribution to one of the ongoing research projects at the EMBL-Hamburg Unit.

This appointment will be available either as full-time or part-time.

Qualifications and experience: The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in natural sciences and will have minimally two years of postdoctoral experience in structural biology or a related research area. Previous know-how in research training and/or the development of training materials will be an important asset. Experience in designing and running scientific courses from introductory to advanced levels is necessary.

In addition to appropriate project management skills, the successful candidate will have excellent organisational and communication skills as well as the ability to contribute effectively to a team. Familiarity with Windows, MS Office, e-mail and Internet applications is essential. A working knowledge of other operating systems (e.g. UNIX/Linux) is highly desirable. HTML editing and designing, as well as knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, QuarkXpress or other drawing and page-layout programmes are considered to be an advantage. Fluency in English is essential and familiarity with other European languages is desirable.

Contract: A contract of 3 years will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of the review.
