Structural Biology Positions

Pfizer Research and Development

La Jolla, California

Pfizer Worldwide Research and Development La Jolla, have two open
positions for talented and creative structural biology research
scientists in the Structural Biology Group, Department of Cancer
Research Chemistry. The successful candidates will have significant
experience in all modern sub-disciplines of structural biology and their
applications to structure based drug design and protein science aspects
of drug discovery projects. We are particularly interested in candidates
who have demonstrated an ability to apply innovative and high quality
research to answer challenging and unprecedented structural biology and
protein science questions and who desire to apply these abilities to
challenging targets in the oncology therapeutic area. Experience in
signal transduction structural biology and biochemistry would be an
advantage. The positions will be filled at the level of Senior Scientist
or Principal Scientist.

Position 1 will primarily focus on the following areas: 1) generation
and utilization of protein structural models to guide construct design
for protein expression, crystallization and to refinement of SBDD
platforms. 2) protein and protein-small molecule complex
crystallization. 3) biophysical characterization of proteins and
protein-ligand complexes (including but not limited to- ITC, SPR, and
AUC) to facilitate protein crystallization and protein science studies.
Additional areas which Position 1 may support as needed include; protein
purification, x-ray data collection (synchrotron and in-house), x-ray
data processing, structure determination (precedented and novel) and
interpretation.

Position 2 will primarily focus on the following areas: 1) generation
and utilization of protein structural models to guide construct design
for protein expression, crystallization and refinement of SBDD
platforms. 2) protein and protein-small molecule complex
crystallization. 3) x-ray data collection (synchrotron and in-house)
including SAXS, x-ray data processing, structure determination
(precedented and novel) and interpretation. Additional areas which
Position 2 may support as needed include; protein purification,
biophysical characterization of proteins and protein-ligand complexes
(including but not limited to- ITC, SPR, and AUC) to facilitate protein
crystallization and protein science studies.

Candidates will also possess the following skills:

Excellent oral and written communication skills and good presentation
skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills which facilitate knowledge sharing and
scientific discussions.

Ability to quickly and effectively operate, communicate and influence
decision making within cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams
comprising; biochemists, biologists, chemists, crystallization
scientists, protein scientists and x-ray crystallographers.

Applicants will have the minimum requirements of a PhD and Postdoctoral
experience in Structural Biology, Biochemistry or a closely related
field. 3-5 years of drug discovery experience in Biotechnology or
Pharmaceutical sectors would be an advantage.
