The project is a collaboration with the group of Prof. Martin Zörnig (Georg-Speyer-Haus, Institute for Tumor Biology and Experimental Therapy) and other international and local research groups that aim to develop new therapies for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma by targeting the FUSE Binding Protein 1 (FUBP1), a pro-proliferative and anti-apoptotic oncoprotein. The work of the PhD project comprises structural studies on FUBP1 using X-ray crystallography and other biophysical methods as well as ligand binding studies of FUBP1 inhibitors that we would like to develop into drug candidates. The ideal candidate would have a Master degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Biophysics and experience in protein biochemistry and protein expression. We are an international research group and good knowledge of English as well as excellent communication skills will be essential. The planned research will be done in a highly stimulating and international research environment, integrated in the life science campus Riedberg in collaboration with the Institute for Tumor Biology and Experimental Therapy.
