*Institute for Protein Innovation (IPI) Director of Biological Discovery*

*Employer*: Institute for Protein Innovation

*Location*: Boston, Massachusetts (US)

*Salary*: Salary will be competitive.

*Discipline*: Life Sciences, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Immunology,
Structural Biology

*Position Type*: Full Time

*Organization Type*: Non-Profit

*Job Type*: Faculty, Group Leader/Principal Investigator

The Institute for Protein Innovation (IPI) seeks a *Director of Biological
Discovery* to lead our target selection and biological validation programs.
The IPI, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization embedded within the Harvard
Medical School Longwood Area, has established itself as a premier center
for protein science and has implemented state-of-the-art automation for
high-throughput antibody discovery.

The longterm mission of the IPI is the discovery of antibodies targeting
all secreted and cell surface proteins from human and mouse to serve as
both tool compounds and leads for potential new therapeutics. To maximize
biological and therapeutic impact, the IPI has adopted a strategy that
includes the targeting of functionally related groups of protein families,
such as those that participate in stem cell signaling, specifying neuronal
synapses, or regulating immune responses.

The Director of Biological Discovery will take a lead role in target
selection, including identifying areas of biological importance, as well as
detailed antigen design to maximize production of antibodies that modulate
biological processes. Exceptional communication and organizational skills
are critical, as the Director will be responsible for the organization and
oversight of community-based workshops in which IPI-generated antibodies
are distributed to community members for expert validation, evaluation in
cell-based and animal-based models, and dissemination in publications.

This position offers a unique opportunity to straddle academics and
therapeutics, with enormous prospects for discovery and intellectual
property generation. Candidates should hold a PhD (or equivalent degree)
and have at least three years of postdoctoral experience, with demonstrated
expertise in structural immunology, structural neurobiology, sequence-based
assessment of biological function, or a related field.

The Director of Biological Discovery has the opportunity to receive a
part-time academic appointment as Assistant Professor at Boston Children’s
Hospital and Harvard Medical School. This joint appointment affords the
opportunity to participate in teaching activities, with enhanced
opportunities for intimate collaborations with the exceptional scientific
community within and surrounding Harvard Medical School.

Interested candidates should send a CV and a brief statement of future
research interests as a single PDF to care...@proteininnovation.org, and
arrange for three letters of reference be sent to the same address. Please
include “CCP420181227” in the subject line.

IPI offers competitive compensation and benefits, including health and
dental insurance, generous vacation and holiday time off, and retirement
saving plans. IPI is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action Employer.
Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without
regard to their race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual
orientation, gender identity, protected veteran status or disability.

*About the Institute*

IPI is a nonprofit research organization whose mission is to foster
innovation in protein research, train the next generation of innovators and
entrepreneurs in protein science, forge new ties between academic and
industry investigators, and bridge the missing link between genomics and
therapeutics. IPI has built a high-throughput antibody discovery platform
for developing opensource antibodies targeting the entire human
extracellular proteome. This resource will produce critical tools, lead
therapeutics, and technologies that empower academic and industry
scientists, catalyze entrepreneurship, and accelerate drug discovery.
