*Postdoctoral Positions in Protein Biophysics and Structural Biology
(NMR/Molecular Modeling/cryo-EM)*
Buck Lab. at Case Western Reserve Univ. Medical School, Cleveland, Ohio,
USA

We are looking to add 2 postdoctoral co-workers to our interdisciplinary
team as new funding has been awarded to our laboratory for the
investigation of the role of Plexin in interacting with kinases and
Alzheimer proteins, as well as several other systems (an IDP, a peripheral
membrane protein and an enzyme) in collaboration with leading local
laboratories. Our interest is to understand the disease associated protein
interactions at the protein biophysics, biochemical, structural and protein
dynamics level {e.g. see our recent papers of other laboratory projects and
approaches in ACS Central Science 2018 doi: 10.1021/acscentsci.7b00593;
J.Biol.Chem. 2019 doi: 10.1074/jbc.RA118.004021; Cell. Mol. Life Sci. 2020,
doi: 10.1007/s00018-020-03571-2 and bioRxiv 2020 doi:
10.1007/s00018-020-03571-2}.

We are looking for talented and highly motivated coworkers, who aim to
become independent researchers/project leaders (> ½ of the previous
postdocs accomplished this goal). Prior experience with protein
purification is a must and with structural biology (protein NMR or x-ray
crystallography) is highly desirable. We principally use solution NMR, not
so much for protein structure determination but more for protein surface
and interaction site mapping and for the characterization of protein
dynamics and conformational change. The projects will also involve amide
hydrogen exchange on a Waters mass spectrometer dedicated to HX-MS, and
employ NMR methyl relaxation and molecular dynamics simulation as
additional tools. The North East Ohio High Field NMR facility consists of a
600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz and a 900 MHz Bruker spectrometers.

With the recent installation of a Titan Krios at Case Western Reserve
University there is also considerable interest to apply cryo-EM to our
systems and postdocs will be able to learn from/work with local
collaborators and facility manager.

The Buck laboratory provides a stimulating but friendly working
environment. The Medical School of Case Western Reserve University is
highly rated overall in the US (~ 16th. in terms of NIH funding for 2020)
and Cleveland is a pleasant but affordable place to live with excellent
educational, medical and cultural institutions. The starting date is as
soon as possible but this project details are negotiable and the salary is
competitive, based on experience. Please send your resume, overview of your
scientific interests and career goals as well as contact details of three
referees able to provide references by e-mail to *matthias.b...@case.edu
