Research Associate (Postdoc) Position for
XFEL Science in the Group of Marius Schmidt
November 2021
We are seeking outstanding candidate(s) for one or two post-doctoral
position(s) t to begin as soon as possible. The successful
applicant will become part of an interdisciplinary team at the University of
Wisconsin Milwaukee (UWM) that aims to solve
important biological questions using ultra-brilliant, pulsed X-ray sources such
as the expanding global network of free-electron
X-ray laser facilities (see e.g. Tenboer et al., 2014, Science; Pande et al.
2016, Science; Olmos et al., 2018, BMC-Biology;
Pandey et al., 2019 Nature Methods, Hosseinizadeh et al., 2021 Nature). The
successful candidate will have the opportunity to be
productive with significant national and international recognition, work with
a team of UWM faculty supported by BioXFEL
(a National Science Foundation Science and Technology Center, STC), and
collaborate within the STC network - a consortium
of eight universities across the U.S.. Beamtime opportunities at the LCLS,
European XFEL and SACLA are available. This is a
unique opportunity to enter this highly innovative field. Research areas of
interest include, but are not limited to: time-resolved
crystallography, biophysics, time-resolved optical spectroscopy, X-ray
diffraction and imaging, and enzymology.
UWM is in the Milwaukee metropolitan area, at Lake Michigan, close to the
Chicago greater area.
Minimum Qualifications: • Doctorate in (Bio) Physics, Biology, (Bio) Chemistry
or a related field.
• A demonstrated record of research accomplishments (papers). • Willingness to
travel to synchrotrons and free electron
X-ray lasers in the US, Europe and Japan to collect data. • Familiarity with
use of computers, and basic programming skills are a plus.
