Unix had taken off big-time before Sun even appeared.

Unix created Sun.  Sun didn't create Unix.


I remember one day when our department chair (community college CS) came running into the lab, very excited. "We're getting Suns! We're getting Suns!" She had just been told that there were some boxes at the loading dock for us, labelled "Multi-media Work-Station".
Those turned out to be computer desks.
Since she had come from UCBerk, what else could a "Multi-Media Work-Station" possibly be, other than a Sun computer? :-)
